Community Art Initiatives – Memorial Hospital

In the Welcome Mat at the Memorial Hospital Station, color plays a key symbolic role. The artist used orange, for instance, to represent the endurance of the community and the pride people show in their home, and green to signify harmony. The imagery celebrates identifiable buildings, public places, pathways and social groups which stand at the heart of West Belleville. The artist's strong emphasis on the people of the community is symbolized by the tree of life and the hearts. Design by Carolyn Karasek.
