The St. Clair County MetroLink Extension is a three-phase light rail construction project. When Phase 3 is complete, the St. Clair County MetroLink Extension will stretch over 26 miles and connect communities in St. Clair County with communities throughout the St. Louis metropolitan region (see "Capital Projects In Progress" for details on Phase 3).
All stations include disability accessibility, fare vending, lighting, signage, code blue phones in the park-ride lots, passenger assistance telephones, landscaping, and other passenger amenities including an integrated MetroLink-MetroBus transportation system that allows for synchronized transfers between bus and rail.

Phase 1 opened for service in May 2001 and extends MetroLink 17.4 miles from its prior terminus in East St. Louis, Illinois to Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Illinois. This phase includes eight passenger stations with nearly 4,000 free parking spaces for commuters. In addition two stations, the Fairview Heights and Belleville, offer long-term parking in designated areas.
