St. Clair County MetroLink Extension – Phase 2

Concrete railroad ties are offloaded from a truck onto the MetroLink trackbed in March 2002. Each concrete railroad tie weighs over 600 pounds. Construction of Phase 2 of the St. Clair County MetroLink Extension includes installation of over 14,000 concrete railroad ties.

Phase 2 opened for service in June 2003 and extends MetroLink 3.5 miles northeast from Southwestern Illinois College to the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station. The Shiloh-Scott station serves Scott Air Force Base and eastern St. Clair County commuters. The station has two sections, one which is open to the general public and the other for those with Scott Air Force Base security clearances. The station is also accompanied by a MetroBus network inside the Base to shuttle people to and from the Shiloh-Scott station.
