Metro Redefined - Fall 2006 MetroLink Expansion and MetroBus Route Restructuring

Metro Redefined, a major expansion of Metrolink and restructuring of the complementary bus network, was approved by Metro's Board of Commissioners on February 24, 2006.

The final approved plan includes numerous modifications of the original plan described on Metro's website and in public hearings. Over 1,000 comments were received during the public comment process from customers, Metro employees, community organizations and advocacy groups. Of the fifty-three (53) bus routes proposed for change, twenty-six (26) route proposals were modified specifically to address customer suggestions. Three proposed changes were rejected. Twenty-four (24) proposed changes were approved without modification.

Metro Redefined substantially enhances transit service for the St. Louis region. The Metrobus changes will be implemented in conjunction with Metro's start up of the new Cross County branch of MetroLink serving Washington University, Clayton, and communities as far south as Shrewsbury.

Metro operates nearly 4,000 trips on its fleet of buses and MetroLink trains each weekday. There are literally hundred's of thousands of possible connections and work shifts that are possible. Metro staff has attempted to design a combined bus and rail schedule that coordinates connections and minimizes transfers. However, it is impossible to make every schedule work for all of the possible needs.
