Certain MetroLink vehicles may operate prior to and beyond these times, but do not have service to all stations or service is extended by a MetroLink bus shuttle.
MetroLink now offers light rail service and nine new MetroLink Stations in the Central Corridor of St. Louis City and County. The new stations add MetroLink service to Washington University as well as the communities of University City, Clayton, Richmond Heights, Brentwood, Maplewood, and Shrewsbury! Plus, Metro now offers later night and earlier morning service on MetroLink.
- Current Tickets, Transfers, or Passes are required to board MetroLink. You may purchase your fare from a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) located at any MetroLink station. As a reminder, some TVMs do not handle bills larger than $10. However, new TVMs in Missouri will handle $20 bills for large fare denomination purchases.
Which fare should you buy?
Metro offers several types of fares to fit your travel needs. If you plan to make one trip, which may include a stop-over, purchase a MetroLink One-Ride Ticket, which allows you two hours to complete your trip on MetroLink only. If you desire to travel in multiple directions (back and forth), purchase a Metro Two-Hour Pass, which allows you to make round trip travels within a two-hour time frame (this Two-Hour Pass also permits you to ride MetroBus). If you desire to make round trip travels that span beyond two hours, select the 2 Two-Hour Pass button from the TVM and use the pass that is pre-validated for your outbound trip and save the other pass for your return, but be sure to validate it. For a full-day of system travel, a Metro One-Day Pass is the best option. In addition, you may board MetroLink with a current MetroBus Ticket with Multi-Use Transfer.
- Before entering the MetroLink train, be sure your fare is "valid". Some fares require validation prior to boarding. To validate your fare, locate the red Validator machine on the MetroLink platform and insert your Pass or Ticket into the slot at the top of the red post. For your convenience, the purchase of a One-Ride Tickets and a Two-Hour Pass from a TVM is pre-validated. Other passes purchased from a TVM that indicate specific days/dates of travel and/or time of day do not require validation. (Scratch-off passes should have the current date scratched off, and therefore do not require validation.) Keep your validated fare available at all times while aboard the train, and upon request, be prepared to present it to a Fare Inspector. Passengers who board without possessing valid fare may be issued a citation and be required to pay a court-imposed fine. In addition, if the valid time on the fare has elapsed, you will need to deboard and purchase an additional Metro fare to complete your trip.
- Heads Up – Train Destinations are shown on signs on each train. Check the signs to ensure you board the proper train. MetroLink trains operate on two branches that provide direct service:
Lambert Branch: Operates between Lambert Airport Main and Shiloh–Scott
Shrewsbury Branch: Operates between Shrewsbury–Lansdowne I-44 and Emerson Park
For your convenience, every MetroLink train displays its endstop on signs above the windshield on each end of the train (headsign) and also on the side of each MetroLink car (side sign). Endstops will also be announced for passengers when the train stops at each station.
When will transferring be necessary?
You will need to transfer to another train if, while on board, you discover that you are on the wrong train or if you want to travel between the western portions of the Lambert and Shrewsbury Branches.
Eastbound passengers in Missouri on the Lambert Branch (between Lambert-Main and Delmar MetroLink Stations) who desire to travel to Missouri stations on the Shrewsbury Branch west of the Forest Park-DeBaliviere station must transfer to a train that displays the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 endstop.
Eastbound passengers in Missouri on the Shrewsbury Branch (between Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Skinker MetroLink Stations) who desire to travel to Missouri stations on the Lambert Branch west of the Forest Park-DeBaliviere station must transfer to a train that displays the Lambert-Main endstop.
Eastbound passengers anywhere on the Shrewsbury Branch who desire to travel to Illinois stations east of the Emerson Park station must transfer to a train that displays the Shiloh–Scott endstop.
Westbound passengers in Illinois on the Lambert Branch (between Shiloh-Scott and Emerson Park MetroLink Stations) who desire to travel to Missouri stations west of the Forest Park-DeBaliviere station on the Shrewsbury Branch must transfer to a train that displays the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 endstop.
Where can passengers transfer to a different train?
Passengers may transfer between branches at any station from Forest Park–DeBaliviere to Emerson Park. (Exception: If you have purchased a One-Ride Ticket and your initial direction of travel is eastbound, and you must transfer trains in order to complete your one trip, you must transfer at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station).
- Be safe. While waiting on the platform for an upcoming train, stand back and stay away from the edge, indicated by the raised rubber or metal strip. Board and exit the train with care. Watch your step, and mind the gap between the train and platform. When riding, stay seated or hold on to the handrails. Never lean against the train doors.
- Sit back and relax. Once you have boarded, take a seat and watch for your stop. If you are traveling with children, make sure they remain seated during your trip. Using radios without ear plugs, smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited on all Metro vehicles. MetroLink Operators will announce each upcoming MetroLink station. At your destination, please depart the train from the nearest door. Prior to closing the doors, MetroLink Operators will sound a beep and announce that the doors are closing.
- Transferring from MetroLink to MetroBus. If you wish to transfer to MetroBus, present your fare to the MetroBus Operator who will take it for verification of the correct date and expiration time. If you need to make additional transfers, the MetroBus Operator will issue you a Multi-Use Transfer, valid until the expiration time, for use on additional Metro vehicles. Unless you are using a valid ticket, transfer or pass, exact fare is always required to board MetroBus. Expired or invalid Passes or Multi-Use Transfers will not be honored, and you will need to pay an additional Metro fare to board and complete your trip. As a reminder, MetroLink One-Ride Tickets may not be used for MetroBus Travel.
