NEWS RELEASE
Rail maintenance work on the MetroLink system may result in short delays for some passengers next week.

To accommodate the crews, MetroLink will operate on a single track at the Central West End Station starting at 8 p.m. through the end of service Monday through Thursday (Sept. 29-Oct. 2). During those times, Blue Line trains will only operate between the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station and the Shrewsbury Lansdowne I-44 Station. Eastbound and westbound Blue Line and Red Line customers may experience 5 to 10 minute delays.

MetroBus operators, MetroLink operators, mechanics, clerical and maintenance workers have ratified new labor contracts. Metro workers are represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 788. The Bi-State Development Agency's Board of Commissioners voted in favor of the same agreements on September 19.

East-West Gateway Council of Governments today voted to move forward with plans to have the Bi-State Development Agency (BSDA) lead a new regional freight partnership aimed at optimizing the region’s freight transportation infrastructure. America's Gateway will capitalize on an anticipated 60 percent increase in national freight volume by the year 2040.

MetroLink trains will not operate between Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and the North Hanley Station Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and September 28. Passengers will be transported by bus shuttles between both Lambert Airport Terminal Stations and the North Hanley Station and that will create delays of 20 to 25 minutes for those passengers. Customers are encouraged to allow enough time for the longer commute to the airport so they do not miss their flights or arrive late for work at the airport.

The Bi-State Development Agency's Board of Commissioners ratified a tentative labor agreement today. Metro transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 788 reached the tentative agreement earlier this week which includes pay raises for approximately 1,400 MetroBus operators, MetroLink operators, mechanics, maintenance and clerical workers. Under the proposed contract, the pension benefits would not change. However, because pension benefits have been a key issue in the negotiations, both parties have agreed to revisit portions of the pension plan in the future.

Metro transit is planning extra MetroLink service Friday evening (Sept. 19) to accommodate people who are going to the Balloon Glow at Central Field in Forest Park. The Balloon Glow is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Metro transit is inviting MetroBus customers and the public to learn more about the new North St. Louis County Transit Center at three upcoming informal meetings. The new transit center, which is scheduled to open in fall 2015, will be located at 3140 Pershall Road between West Florissant Avenue and New Halls Ferry Road in Ferguson. The new MetroBus facility will feature an indoor passenger waiting area, public restrooms, concessions, and a free Park-Ride lot.
