Metro transit is planning extra MetroLink service Friday evening (Sept. 19) to accommodate people who are going to the Balloon Glow at Central Field in Forest Park. The Balloon Glow is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Metro transit is inviting MetroBus customers and the public to learn more about the new North St. Louis County Transit Center at three upcoming informal meetings. The new transit center, which is scheduled to open in fall 2015, will be located at 3140 Pershall Road between West Florissant Avenue and New Halls Ferry Road in Ferguson. The new MetroBus facility will feature an indoor passenger waiting area, public restrooms, concessions, and a free Park-Ride lot.

Metro Ambassadors and volunteers from the American Red Cross and the All Ready Campaign will be distributing emergency preparedness information at several Metro transit locations this Thursday, September 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. September is Emergency Preparedness Month, and Metro, the Red Cross, and the All Ready Campaign are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared for all kinds of emergencies and disasters.

Rail maintenance work on the MetroLink system may result in short delays for some passengers this week.

To accommodate the crews, MetroLink will operate on a single track at the Grand MetroLink Station starting at 8 p.m. through the end of service on Monday (Sept. 15) and from the beginning of service through 8 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 20). During those times, Blue Line trains will only operate between the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station and the Shrewsbury Lansdowne I-44 Station. Eastbound and westbound Blue Line and Red Line customers may experience 5 to 10 minute delays.

The Bi-State Development Agency/Metro has been notified it will be awarded $10.3 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to enhance transit and job accessibility in the Central Corridor of St. Louis. The federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Program award includes the construction of a new MetroLink station to be located at Boyle Avenue and Sarah Street in the Cortex District about half-way between the Central West End MetroLink Station and the Grand MetroLink Station.

September is Emergency Preparedness Month and to help educate Metro transit customers and the St. Louis region about the importance of being prepared for emergencies and disasters, Metro Ambassadors will be stationed at several Metro locations on Wednesday, September 3, and on Thursday, September 18, they will be joined by volunteers from the American Red Cross.
