Find Out How to Make Healthy Recipes With Fresh Ingredients at Metro’s North Hanley and Wellston Transit Centers

Metro Transit riders and area residents have four opportunities in May to learn how easy it is to make healthy, wholesome recipes on a tight budget. A nutritionist from the University of Missouri Extension will take fresh ingredients from the Link Market to prepare healthy meal options during four food demonstrations this month at the North Hanley Transit Center (4398 Hanley Road) and the Wellston Transit Center (6402 Plymouth Avenue). The demonstrations are part of the Link Market food kiosk’s focus on nutrition and healthy eating

Monthly food demonstrations are held at the Wellston and North Hanley Transit Centers so Metro Transit riders, nearby residents in the community and others can see how to transform fresh produce and foods purchased at the Link Market into nutritious recipes for individuals and families, especially for those on fixed incomes. Free samples and copies of the featured recipe are available during the demonstrations. Recipes from previous food demonstrations, as well as more information about the Link Market, can be found at metrostlouis.org/links2life.

The fresh food kiosk pilot program is a partnership between the Bi-State Development Research Institute, Metro Transit, the Link Market and the Missouri Foundation for Health, which is funding the program through a grant. Easily accessible by public transit at the North Hanley and Wellston Transit Centers, the fresh food kiosks offer affordably priced vegetables and fruits and other healthy household staples. The Link Markets are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash, credit and EBT are accepted.
