Bus Stop Evaluation Program: #10 Gravois Lindell and #36 Spanish Lake

The bus stop evaluation program is forward. We are continuing the bus stop evaluation program with the #10 Gravois Lindell and #36 Spanish Lake.

Please note: none of the routes listed are being eliminated, but your feedback on specific stops is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Below is the new list of proposed MetroBus stops under consideration for removal from the following routes:

#10 Gravois Lindell

#36 Spanish Lake

These stops are being proposed for elimination as part of Metro’s Bus Stop Evaluation Program to make the system more efficient, faster and allow for more improvements to existing bus stops. Note: under agreement with the City of St. Louis, MODOT, and Metro, the following list of bus stops on the #10 Gravois Lindell will be eliminated. In return, all stops on this route will be made ADA accessible.

    Eliminating both Michigan AND Pennsylvania stops on #10 route will result in NO stops within the four long blocks between Compton Ave and Nebraska. I also suggest that you look at adding times to the #10 route. This route is entirely too busy to only run every 30 minutes. The buses are ALWAYS crowded.

      Jack, in response to the Michigan and Pennsylvania stops, we are putting in a stop at Minnesota. This was done with a Freedom Grant and it is already ADA accessible with a bench. Hope this information helps!

    I agree with Jack, the #10 route was crowded no matter what time of day I board. Picking up the bus at Olive and Beaumont, riding to Civic Center is ALWAYS a very crowded standing room only and it seemed like the smallest bus is always sent out for the route. Eliminating stops won’t help this bus be on time, there are a lot of ADA riders on the #10 when I am on it. Loading and unloading ADA tend to take longer.

    Can I assume that the 36X Bissell Hills is included with the 36 Spanish Lake route? There are a number of stops on Kilgore St in the Bissell Hills neighborhood marked to be eliminated. The ones at Kilgore & Tappan are used daily by visually impaired riders. The stops at Kilgore & Cabot, which are NOT marked for elimination, are seldom used. Perhaps a swap could be worked out?

    I am blind and live on Kilgore Dr. The primary reason why I bought my house there was because it had bus stops I could get to easily which would get me to and from work. I use the stops at Kilgore and Tappin. They are relatively easy to get to especially durring winter. If those stops were removed I would have to go the equivalent of about two blocks more. In snow it is very dificult to navigate with a cane, in deepp snow is is impossible. I would be forced to take off many more days then I normally would during a particularly harsh winter. which seems to be occurring more and more frequently. Please do not remove these stops.

    Jack has a point about the service frequency on the #10, but I am pretty confident there is and will be a northbound stop on Gravois at the wedge-shaped traffic island/planter at Juniata/Minnesota (near Gravois Planing Mill Company). I used to use that stop occasionally. Assuming that stop is still there (I can’t recall right now), it was less than 400 feet from the stop at Michigan Avenue (far-side) by the former ABM Janitorial offices, and less than 400 feet in the other direction from the stop at Pennsylvania Avenue (near-side) by the used car lot. When I was a daily rider of the #10 I tried out all of these stops for distance and timing estimates to get to my then-home, but finally decided the stops at Wyoming/Compton and at Nebraska were better for me.

    Anyway, I think the city/MoDOT have placed curb cuts on that little island now, so it’s an accessible stop. (Not saying I would recommend a person using a wheelchair try to cross Gravois in that stretch, but that stop meets the minimum standards for ADA access anyway.) The geometry of these intersections is just really weird.
