COVID-19 Update: MetroBus Changes Coming April 20

Return to Blog

Rider Alert GraphicOn Monday, April 20, Metro Transit will introduce a new service plan to improve the scheduling and reliability of MetroBus service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the new plan, Metro will temporarily suspend service on six MetroBus routes, and will modify schedules and service frequencies for most MetroBus routes in Missouri due to lower ridership and fewer available workforce resources.

Plan Details

• Several MetroBus routes will have increased frequency during select daytime hours to reduce overcrowding and support social distancing on buses.

• Most MetroBus routes will have reduced frequencies throughout daytime and evening hours.

• Several MetroBus routes will end service earlier in the evening.

• Service will be temporarily suspended on the #2 Red | #13 Union | #47 Hanley | #56 Kirkwood-Webster | #58 Chesterfield Valley | #75 Christian Hospital.

• There are no new changes to MetroLink service or Illinois MetroBus routes. You can access the Illinois MetroBus schedules here.

For updated information and schedules, all MetroBus riders should check their route below or contact Metro Transit Information for assistance.

  1. George says:

If you’re going to move service to Call-A-Ride, you better add the bus tracking feature to the transit app. People get scared and nervous if a driver does not take certain time slots. This has been a problem on the 101 route since to launch of the service plan. Lots of routes the vans will move to.

    1. Lindsey says:

Thanks for the suggestion. We will share it with our Operations team to see if it’s possible to add that capability.

  2. Jane says:

When will the Lyft service for the 58 and 56 routes be implemented? Very important routes that if people don’t get the service, they will be stranded or not get to work.

    1. Lindsey says:

For information about Lyft service, contact Metro Transit Information. They can be reached at 314.207.9786 (text) or 314.231.2345 (phone).

  3. Shannon Villa says:

Nice job with this service plan which actually improves and increases service where and when it is needed the most.

  4. sheila bornstein says:

how do u expect riders to get around when u already suspended the 1 and 5 now the 2 how do we get to the metrolink to get to work.

  5. When the #56 Kirkwood Webster went thru the service change, adding the Sunday service was good but that route should have also been provided by Call-a-Ride vans due to that the route sees very little ridership. We could thank the businesses for keeping the info secret. Businesses along these routes are killing the system by keeping the transit info secret. And they blame the rich CEOs for it.

  6. Ramona matthews says:

Grand bus never show up on time weekend morning waited for a grand bus for 40 minutes

    1. Lindsey says:

Our sincere apologies – due to reduced workforce resources, not all scheduled trips are going out on time. As such, delays are possible on all MetroBus routes.

  7. Shannon Villa says:

Can you look at the 73 Sat and Sun schedule it looks weird and suggests different routings for some trips. is this the correct schedule?

    1. Lindsey says:

Thank you for the heads up – our IT and Planning teams are looking into it.

    2. Lindsey says:

The online schedule has been fixed for #73. Thanks!

  8. Rihanna says:

Update your website on bike racks! Your Call-A-Ride vans don’t have bike racks and since your moving tons of routes to vans, you claim all your bus routes have bike racks. Sounds like a complaint to the FTA over this matter could be the only way Metro speeds the process up.

    1. Jerry says:

We will update our website information on bike racks.

  9. A fustrated person says:

Who decided this service change? The 2 Red route serves tons of essential businesses which is what many people need to do. Removing that route would put hundreds of people scrabbling to find transportation. Reconsider! Also why is the 57 60 minutes all day everyday? I rarely seen social distanceing in that route leaving Maplewood.

    1. Jerry says:

We completely understand your frustration with some parts of the new service plan. The reality is that, due to the COVID-19 crisis, we do not have enough available operators to run normal transit operations. Our Planning team is regularly evaluating operations, and with our reduced available resources, is making hard decisions on what bus routes to prioritize – typically those with highest demand and that best serve those taking essential trips. At the same time, we are doing the best we can to operate service that encourages social distancing and supports the health and safety of everyone on the system. We do appreciate all of the feedback we receive, and we will share your comments with Planning to see if any other adjustments can be made.

  10. Maria Martinez says:

My coworkers and I take the #2 to make to work every morning and afternoon to make to the metro the only ones that take us to Washington University is the #1#2 #5 and now your going to suspend all it bad enough we don’t have no more shuttles from the University to take us now the bus wow

  11. TOMMY HINKLE says:

CALL-A-RIDE VANS are obviously NOT going to show-up in real time reports on the TRANSIT APP. I expect CATTLE CAR spacing and/or vans just passing me by.

    1. Jerry says:

We are currently working on adding Call-A-Ride vans serving MetroBus routes to the Transit app database.

  12. Robert Hobson says:

Since 2 RED is going be suspended is 31 going run every hour ?

    1. Jerry says:

The #31 Chouteau is scheduled to run every 90 minutes under the new service plan.

  13. MetroBus and MetroLInk Rider says:

You might want to suggest the Google Commute app as a way for riders to get accurate transit information. It lets you put in where you are and where you’re going so you know exactly when to leave and doesn’t just give you 1 route or time but all of ones that you can use. I found it very useful during all the service changes.

  14. Jessica says:

All the route are very important a lot of people take the bus that have to go to work and etc think about the people who have nothing else to rely on but the bus.

  15. Katie says:

Are the Illinois routes not affected by these changes?

    1. Lindsey says:

Correct, there are no new changes to Illinois MetroBus routes.

  16. Erica McClure says:

Is the #9 really only running every two hours??? Can riders that need that route get discounted Lyft service so that they can still get to work on time?

    1. Lindsey says:

For assistance with the new schedules, you can contact Metro Transit Information. They can be reached at 314.207.9786 (text) or 314.231.2345 (phone) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  17. Tim says:

The links to get individual bus schedules are not working. Also, only one bus driver this week has told passengers about the new rule starting April 20 making facemasks a mandatory requirement to ride. I haven’t seen any signs informing riders of the new rule either.

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi – The links to the schedules should be working. Can you let us know which one was not working for you? We are encouraging all passengers to wear nose and mouth-covering masks to protect our drivers and other passengers, but this is not required.

  18. Are metro bus fares still waved?

    1. Lindsey says:

Fare enforcement on MetroBus and Metro Call-A-Ride will continue to be waived until further notice. We are asking that all passengers continue to use Metro Transit for essential trips only during this time.

  19. Amanda says:

I don’t see how people who use the buses that will be temporarily suspended from April 20, such as the #47 Hanley, will get to their destinations if Call-A-Ride trips stop being waived as well.

  20. Brenda Jackson says:

Hi so what does the 13# Union start back up because I was called back to work and I have to walk all the way down to Kingshighwayto catch the Kingshighway bus and the 13 Union is only maybe not even a block

    1. Lindsey says:

We are looking to make changes to service in mid-June. Details will be released when they are finalized later this week.
