Flashback Friday: 1947 Wellston Loop Streetcar

Return to Blog

Hop in the DeLorean folks; it’s time to travel back in time for Flashback Fridays! I’ll take you on a trip down memory lane of public transportation in St. Louis from street cars to development projects around the region.

For the inaugural addition of Flashback Fridays, I found a picture from 1947. Here you can see one of St. Louis’ old streetcars. Those gentlemen are waiting to  board what was then the Wellston Loop.

Did you know St. Louis’ first streetcar route  opened in 1859? It went east to west on Olive Street from Fourth to Twelfth Street. (St. Louis and its Streetcars by Andrew D. Young)
