Flashback Friday

Return to Blog

Today we take you back to the ’30s to the Chase Hotel.

1933: The 21st Amendment ends prohibition, gas costs 10 cents a gallon and the board game Monopoly is created. In this 1933 photograph, you can see the People’s Motor Bus #663 at the intersection of Lindell and Kingshighway.

The bus in the photo is dropping a man off right in front of the Chase Park Plaza. You can see a sign for the ‘Chase Club.’ Over the years, the Chase Club brought in big-name entertainers like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope. The Chase Club was located in the space that the cinemas are now.

Don’t forget, the Great Forest Park Balloon Glow and Race is happening tonight and tomorrow just around the bend from the Chase. Click here for details on riding Metro to the events. Happy Friday!
