MetroLink Passengers To Be Transported By Buses in Illinois January 30-31

Return to Blog

MetroLink MetroLink will not provide normal weekend service between the Emerson Park and Fairview Heights MetroLink Stations in Illinois on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31.

The service disruption is necessary to accommodate the scheduled demolition of the Highway 157 bridge over MetroLink tracks by the Illinois Department of Transportation. MetroLink Station Shuttles will transport passengers by bus between the Emerson Park, Washington Park and Fairview Heights MetroLink Stations. Passengers traveling through the affected area that weekend should expect delays of 20 to 30 minutes.

The following stations will be impacted by the scheduled MetroLink service disruption on January 30 & 31:

  • Emerson Park MetroLink Station
  • Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center MetroLink Station*
  • Washington Park MetroLink Station
  • Fairview Heights MetroLink Station

*MetroLink passengers will be able to board westbound Red Line trains at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Station. Eastbound Red Line riders may exit trains at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Station but they need to be aware that MetroLink Station Shuttles will not serve that station.

All eastbound MetroLink passengers will exit the train at the Emerson Park Station except for those continuing on the train to the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Station. Eastbound MetroLink riders will transfer to MetroLink Station Shuttles to be transported by bus to the Washington Park Station and to the Fairview Heights Station. (Reminder: No bus shuttles to the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Station.) Riders can transfer back to the train to resume their eastbound trips on MetroLink when they arrive at the Fairview Heights Station.

All westbound MetroLink passengers will exit the train at the Fairview Heights Station to board a MetroLink Station Shuttle to continue their westbound trips by bus shuttles to the Washington Park Station and the Emerson Park Station. They can board westbound trains at Emerson Park to resume their westbound trips

To avoid the delays and transferring between MetroLink trains and the special bus shuttles that weekend, some Illinois riders traveling to Missouri stations may consider parking and boarding the train at the Emerson Park Station. Illinois MetroLink passengers with destinations east of the Fairview Heights Station may consider parking at the Fairview Heights Station to avoid the MetroLink Station Shuttle delays.

Red Line MetroLink trains will operate on normal weekend schedules providing 20-minute service between the Lambert Airport Terminal #1 and Emerson Park MetroLink Stations; and provide regular weekend service between the Fairview Heights and Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Stations. Blue Line MetroLink trains will operate on normal weekend schedules providing 20-minute service between the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Emerson Park MetroLink Stations.

MetroLink will resume normal operations between the Emerson Park and Fairview Heights Stations by the beginning of service on Monday, February 1.
