Take Metro to Child Safety Day at The Pageant on Saturday
The 7th Annual Child Safety Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Pageant located at 6161 Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis. The yearly event is fun for children and is one stop shopping for parents and grandparents for valuable information about keeping children physically, emotionally, and socially safe. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, St. Louis Fire Department, St. Louis Blues, BMO Harris Bank, Home State Health Plan, INOBTR (I Know Better), Page Bradley Law, BJC, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, and Operation Lifesaver from Metro transit are among the many local businesses and groups committed to keeping kids safe. Child Safety Day is free and is geared toward teaching families in a fun environment how to stay safe on the street, safe in the car, safe around strangers, safe on the Internet and safe at home, especially during home emergencies like fires.
Metro’s Operation Lifesaver team educates children about safety around trains and crossings—not playing or walking on the tracks and not trying to beat a train by walking or riding bicycles around the warning gates.
Among the other Child Safety Day activities, there will be free flu shots for children and adults, health screenings, DNA kits and fingerprinting, college planning, fire, auto, and first aid safety, Shakespeare Cyberbullying Education Festival Shows, face painting, and special units and demonstrations from the Metropolitan St. Louis Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol. The DEA Rx Take Back area will provide proper disposal for unused and expired medications. The St. Louis Blues mascot, Louie, will greet kids and parents can register to win a classroom party for their child with Louie at the BMO Harris Bank table.
The Bi-State Development Agency (Metro) is committed to improving the quality of life in the St. Louis region. In addition to providing excellent public transit and promoting economic development, MetroBus vehicles and MetroLink trains are designated as mobile safe places for children and adults who need help.
Families and individuals can ride MetroLink to Child Safety Day by taking a Red Line train to the Delmar Loop Station and then walking south to Delmar and west on Delmar to The Pageant. Several MetroBus routes also serve that area.
