Building a Better Metro

We are investing in Metro with construction projects and technological upgrades every day to maintain and improve the system that connects the St. Louis region.

Metro is performing maintenance work and station improvements which may affect your commute on MetroLink. Check our list of current projects below to follow along as we create the next generation of Metro and understand where you might experience delays on the system.

Projects Which May Impact Your Commute

The University City-Big Bend MetroLink Station is temporarily closed for approximately three weeks starting on Thursday, December 18. The closure is necessary for the installation of new infrastructure and upgrades at the station through the Secure Platform Plan, which enhances customer safety and improves the passenger experience on MetroLink with new security gates, fencing, and real-time surveillance cameras.

Transit riders will not be able to access University City-Big Bend Station, and MetroLink trains will not stop at the station starting on December 18. A Metro Shuttle van is available to assist passengers during the temporary shutdown, operating every 20 minutes between the Clayton MetroLink Station and University City-Big Bend MetroLink Station during normal business hours.

Single-Tracking Schedule (December 29 & 30 | January 2 & 3): On Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. to end of service, MetroLink will operate on a single track between the Union Station and Civic Center MetroLink Stations due to construction work at the Union Station tunnel.

Metro is conducting necessary maintenance work on tunnels used by MetroLink near Union Station. To facilitate construction, Metro has scheduled single-track operations during which Blue Line trains can only operate between Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station.

During these scheduled single-track operations, riders should expect to transfer between Blue and Red Line trains as needed at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station. Red Line passengers may experiences delays of 5 minutes. Riders should allow extra time when transferring.

Metro expects work on the Union Station Tunnel to continue until Winter 2028 but does not expect single-tracking operations will be needed for the entire project. Metro will share an update once it has scheduled an end to single-tracking operations. Learn more about how Single-Track Operations work and why they are a necessary tool for Metro.
