Blue Line Trains Only Operating Between Shrewsbury & Forest Park, Nov. 2 – Dec. 23
Return to BlogBeginning Monday, November 2, Blue Line MetroLink trains will only operate between the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Stations to allow crews to perform critical maintenance work in the Union Station Tunnel. This service change will remain in effect during all hours of service through Wednesday, December 23.
During this time, MetroLink will operate on a single track through much of its alignment, and only Red Line trains will serve MetroLink stations east of the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station.
What Riders Need to Know
- Eastbound Blue Line riders will need to transfer to a Red Line train at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station to continue their trips east
- Westbound riders traveling to Blue Line stations must board a Red Line train and then transfer to a westbound Blue Line train at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station.
- All MetroLink riders should expect train frequency to be limited to 20 minutes at each station.
- Riders needing to transfer between the Red Line and Blue Line should allow at least 5 extra minutes during their trip.
- During the week of Thanksgiving, from November 23 to November 28, MetroLink will operate a normal schedule during the day with single-tracking after 6 p.m.
Why This Work is Needed
The Union Station Tunnel is more than 130 years old, and this maintenance project is critical to ensuring MetroLink can continue to use the tunnel for years to come. Crews will be working night and day to complete steel, concrete and foundation work inside the tunnel, as well as replace sewer infrastructure that overlaps with MetroLink tracks.
