Changes Coming to Via Metro STL in January

Return to Blog

We are making some updates to Via Metro STL, starting January 5, 2025, to provide better service and improve reliability. These changes are focused on cutting down on wait times, increasing vehicle availability, and making the service more consistent for you.

Changes to North Zone Service Map

Via Metro STL North Zone service map effective January 5, 2025, that shows Via service available in most areas north of Interstate 270, but also including areas around North County and Riverview Transit Centers. The evening only zone in Ferguson, Dellwood and Castle Point has been discontinued and removed from this service map.

A new North Zone service map will go live on January 5. Over the last 12 months, Metro Transit has made several improvements to MetroBus service in North St. Louis County, including increased route frequency. With these improvements in place, we are adjusting the North Zone to focus on areas north of I-270 where buses don’t run as often, and eliminating the ‘evening only’ zones in Ferguson, Dellwood, and Castle Point.

New Distance Limit for Rides

We are establishing a seven-mile distance limit for rides starting January 5, to keep Via Metro STL service reliable and readily available. This won’t affect most customers since the vast majority of Via trips, more than 90%, are currently under seven miles.

Via Metro STL is designed to be a first-mile/last-mile service, perfect for shorter trips in areas where regular transit isn’t easily accessible. This new limit will allow Via Metro STL service to focus on what it does best, increase ride and vehicle availability, reduce wait times, and encourage customers to consider Metro Transit as a better solution for longer trips.

For example, there are more transit options available in the South Zone. You now have access to the Fenton area with the #21 Watson MetroBus, and direct access to Mercy South Hospital on the #49 Lindbergh MetroBus. These changes were made to both routes as part of the recent December Service Change.

If you have any questions regarding these changes or need assistance with Via Metro STL service, please call 636.251.3328.

The latest change made it even more difficult to get around. If I am in a zone where I am out of the coverage area, transit stops running early or running every hour transferring to another bus that also runs every hour and stops running early and is also outside of the coverage area what is the point of even using Metro at all?
