Gateway Card Update
Return to Blog
We are making changes to the Gateway Card program as we prepare to introduce a new fare collection system early next year:
- Starting Monday, June 30, 2025, you will no longer be able to load funds to your Gateway Card.
- You can use the available balance on your Gateway Card until December 31, 2025.
- Beginning January 1, 2026:
- Your Gateway Card will be permanently deactivated.
- Customers with unexpired ADA Paratransit Gateway Cards can continue to present their card for free rides on MetroLink and MetroBus through the On the Way With ADA program.
- Customers with unexpired Senior/Fixed Route Reduced Fare Gateway cards can continue to present their card as proof of reduced fare eligibility.
Stay tuned for more information on new fare options and new ways to manage your tickets and passes as we continue to make progress on our new fare collection system.
This is really disappointing. When I moved to St Louis and found out about the Gateway Card I was really excited. It is easy to use and if my phone battery has died I don’t need to worry. Or in the winter time, I don’t have to take my hands out of my gloves to operate my phone and pull up the pass, I can just pull the card out of my pocket.
I realize that you have a new system on the way, but it would be nice if we could continue to use the old system until the new system starts. New systems always have bugs that need to be worked out. As it is, you are cancelling out the old system many months (if not longer) before the new system comes into play.
And also, 4 days notice is not good timing. A month would be much better.
Can I buy a Gateway card as a souvenir? I’m willing to pay full price and postage.
