Metro Transit and moovel to Pilot New Mobile Ticketing Platform

Metro Transit is partnering with moovel (becoming REACH NOW), the leading provider of mobile ticketing applications in North America, to pilot a new mobile app that will allow Metro Transit customers to purchase transit fares direct to their mobile device for select transit trips. The Metro Mobile app, available on iOS and Android devices, will begin as a pilot program to test how mobile ticketing works on the Metro Transit system.

During the pilot period, customers using the Metro Mobile app will only be able to purchase round-trip MetroLink passes to St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and St. Louis Blues hockey games, and purchase weekday tickets for the Forest Park Explorer service. The pilot period is expected to last approximately six months.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible transit experience,” said Jessica Mefford-Miller, Executive Director of Metro Transit. “Through this partnership with moovel, we have an opportunity to introduce and test new technology that will make our transit system easier to access and more convenient to use.”

Metro Mobile uses the latest version of moovel’s mobility technology, which includes an updated user experience and design. Metro Transit will also have access to moovel’s Transaction and Operations Management System (TOMS), which supports a diverse range of back-end services to increase operational efficiencies for ticket validation and business intelligence.

“When you’re traveling to the ballpark, the last thing you want to deal with is sitting in traffic,” said Nat Parker, REACH NOW North America CEO. “With Metro Mobile, you can leave your car at home and pay for your trip directly from your phone. We are proud to be working with a fantastic set of partners to strengthen public transit in the St. Louis region and improve the customer experience.”

Through the app, customers are able to purchase full and reduced fares using their credit/debit card, PayPal, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Tickets may be purchased at any time through the Metro Mobile app. Riders can use their ticket or pass by opening the Metro Mobile app and activating their fare. Riders should have their mobile ticket ready to show the MetroBus operator when boarding the Forest Park Explorer, and have their mobile ticket available for inspection while riding MetroLink to Cardinals and Blues games.
