Via Metro STL, Metro Transit’s on-demand service, now available in the Transit app

Innovative app integration enables riders to discover on-demand transit in Metro Transit’s official app to plan, track and pay for transit service

Via Metro STL is now available on Transit, the official app of Metro Transit. Via Metro STL, the St. Louis region’s first on-demand transit service, is designed to offer a convenient transit option for Metro riders, allowing customers to hail a vehicle directly from their smartphone using the Via app and travel to any location within the service zones – no schedule required!

Thousands of riders in the St. Louis region use Transit every day. Now that Via Metro STL is integrated into Transit, riders can learn about the service and plan trips that fit it into their commute. When a user enters a destination, Transit suggests itineraries that feature Via Metro STL, for either point-to-point service or as part of a multimodal trip plan, that connects on-demand service with MetroBus and MetroLink service. With just one tap in Transit, users seamlessly connect to the Via app and request their ride.

“Via and Transit are already valuable partners to Metro Transit, offering services and technology that provide our customers with a first-class transit experience,” said Taulby Roach, President and CEO of Bi-State Development, which operates Metro Transit. “By merging Via Metro STL with Transit, our riders have an even more powerful resource that makes it easier to take full advantage of all of the services and transportation options Metro Transit has to offer.”

This marks another successful collaboration between Transit and Via, an industry leader in on-demand transit solutions. A growing number of transit agencies are looking to microtransit as a means to complement traditional fixed-route service and extend the reach of their network, and this collaboration between Metro, Via and Transit brings the power of on-demand transportation to riders’ fingertips.

“Integrating Via Metro STL into Transit is a big win for Metro riders,” said David Block-Schacter, Chief Business Officer at Transit. “By bringing microtransit into the app riders already use to get around the St. Louis area, Metro is helping its customers discover and make the most of its entire network. We’re excited to continue our collaboration with Via, and bring Metro riders an easy way to use Via Metro STL within the Transit app as a flexible transit option to simplify their commutes.”

“We are proud to introduce new technology that increases access across the Metro Transit network, connecting Via Metro STL, fixed-route MetroBus services and MetroLink lines,” said Daniel Ramot, Via CEO and co-founder. “Via’s software platform will continue to support Metro as it expands efficient and equitable transit across the St. Louis region.”
