Metro Transit, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and Missouri Operation Lifesaver are teaming up to raise awareness about light rail safety during Rail Safety Week in Missouri, April 25-29. Education has helped to reduce the number of collisions with trains from a high of 12,000 incidents across the country in 1,972 to 2,000 incidents nationwide in 2010, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. The news conference being held at the Civic Center MetroLink Station is part of a local community education effort.
Rail Safety News Conference offers information on keeping yourself and your children safe around the rails.
Metro Transit will also distribute rail safety literature to customers traveling on the light rail alignment during Rail Safety week. Volunteers will be at the Civic Center MetroLink Station Wednesday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
