New Heaters Warm Up the Winter Wait for MetroLink Riders

Join Metro this Thursday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. as we warm up a cold winter morning in St. Louis by switching on newly installed heaters at the Arch-Laclede’s Landing MetroLink Station. While these new platform heaters may not be as toasty as a sitting in front of a fireplace on a cold January day, they are a welcome addition for MetroLink riders waiting for their train.

WHAT:
MetroLink platform heaters turned on at the Arch-Laclede’s Landing MetroLink Station,
200 Washington Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63102
(Best access is at the west end of the platform near 2nd Street.)

WHEN:
Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m.

WHO:
Chris Poehler, Metro Senior Vice President of Engineering & New Systems Development

SIGNIFICANCE:
Arch-Laclede’s Landing is the latest MetroLink Station to have heaters installed along the light rail system. “Metro is excited to integrate these amenities into our current MetroLink stations. The platform heaters are something our customers have been asking for and we are happy to provide this service,” said Chris Rimsky, Metro Director of Capital Projects.

The new heaters, along with the existing windscreens, offer a heated area for MetroLink riders to get some relief from the cold temperatures. Riders push a button to turn on the heaters and the heaters will run for up to 15 minutes at a time.

The heaters installed at the Missouri MetroLink stations were funded by a federal capital grant and local matching funds.
